MEN: Black suit or tux with a white shirt, black bowtie or long black tie, and black socks and shoes.
WOMEN: A prescribed, self-purchased two piece black top and skirt/pants and black shoes. The cost is approximately $75 for the two items. Often there are previous members who are selling their attire for a reduced fee.
Members wear a Kente* cloth sash with the formal attire. The Kente is provided.
Informal dress for men and women is an embroidered Essence2 polo shirt, black pants, and black shoes.
*"The Kente, known as a nwentom in Akan, is a type of silk and cotton fabric made of interwoven cloth stripes and is native to the Akan ethnic group of South Ghana. The icon of African culture heritage around the world, Akan kente is identified by its dazzling, multicolored patterns of bright colors, geometric shapes, and bold design." -Wikipedia
Rehearsals start promply at 6:00 p.m.. Latecomers are invited into the rehearsal by Dr. Leach at his discretion. Members are permitted to record rehersals to facilitate practice between rehearsals. Music should be placed in a black, non glare, three ring binder. Pencils in rehearsal are as important as the music, Much of the repertoire is expected to be memorized as often the ensemble moves and claps during performance.
Three principles to live by:
Sing • Move • Clap (in that order)
The business of the ensemble is conducted at the end of every rehearsal by the E2 board president.
Attandance / Fees
Attendance is required. Members may not miss more than two rehearsals in a season unless permission is given by the director. Yearly participation fee is required. The fee covers the costs of the music and administrative costs to manage the organization.
